Castleknock, Blanchardstown and the rest of D15
Dublin 15 covers a lot of ground, and the houses change a good deal from one end to the other.
Castleknock, Carpenterstown, Laurel Lodge and Diswellstown. Mostly mature semi-detached and detached family homes from the 1970s to the 1990s, with a few older houses near Castleknock village and the Phoenix Park end. Typical jobs here are hall, stairs and landing repaints (often the tallest wall in the house and the one most people don’t want to tackle themselves), full interiors before or after an extension, and exterior render and fascia work on houses that haven’t been done in ten years or more. The photos further down this page are from a Castleknock exterior where the paint on the side gable had flaked off in patches.
Blanchardstown, Clonsilla, Coolmine, Hartstown, Huntstown and Corduff. Big 1970s and 1980s estates, with plenty of pebbledash and painted render. Pebbledash takes far more paint than smooth render and needs to be worked into the stone properly with a long-pile roller and brush, or you get bare patches that show up the first time the sun hits the wall. Cracked render gets filled and sealed before we paint.
Ongar, Hansfield, Tyrrelstown and Mulhuddart. Newer developments built from the early 2000s on, with a lot of townhouses, duplexes and apartments. Some of the newer ones still have the builder’s original contract matt on the walls, which marks if you look at it. Houses of this age also tend to have hairline cracks along plasterboard joints and around door frames, so we fill and sand those before the first proper repaint.

An exterior on its own is usually 3 to 5 working days, weather permitting. A full house inside and out is more like 8 to 12 working days. A single room or a hall, stairs and landing is normally one to three days.
